Stevie Mack's Artist Statement

After a fulfilling career in art education and publishing, I now have time to devote myself to drawing, collage and painting. I cherish this joyful passage of time that is rich with exploration and discovery.

My work is informed by the concept of Place. As humans, we experience Place through many different avenues.  It might refer to a specific location, an imaginary site, a memory, or a state of mind.  Concepts such as family, community, belonging, comfort, spirituality, heritage, and tradition, are among the many possibilities that hold important Places in our lives. My work expresses the essence of Place and the subsequent feelings we share as humankind.

I create subject matter that often lives at the intersection of abstraction and landscape, which reflects the endless inspiration I find in nature. I can’t resist the joy I feel to encounter a fresh palette of luscious colors waiting in anticipation to be used.

In addition to acrylic painting, I enjoy using a variety of media on paper to create imaginary Places, nestled between mountain ranges, trees, flowers and more. Above all, I dwell in the possibility to create something of beauty.

I invite you to meander through my images in search of a “place” that resonates with you. I hope you enjoy the journey.
